homeschoolWell, it is back to school time since our family’s three week Christmas vacation. This is one of the things we appreciate about home school. First, here in America, at least were we are, they call it “Winter Recess” and it is a week’s break that starts December 24th until January 2nd.

For my family, we love Christmas and are glad for the opportunity to fully enjoy the season, doing lots of Christmassy things. Back home in the Caribbean island I’m from, we had two -three weeks Christmas vacation (it was called Christmas Vacation too). We got to enjoy the season with our family. Yes, they had to work and had to look for somewhere for their kids to go during the day. Which may be a part of the reason they keep children in school so long here. It’s the times we live in now, working and making money takes premise over family  and a lot of other things.

I like to keep some things old fashion like Christmastime being family time. Taking a break from the everyday grind of life to fully engulf ourselves in the magic of the season before it is gone. Christmas season only comes once a year after all.

Anyway, third grade and Kindergarten school year resumes. I’m going to say my prayers. Have a blessed day.

The Story Continues……

So, it’s 10:05 p.m and my day has finally come to an end. I survived the day but it certainly wasn’t easy. I started the day by posting on my blog, see above. Had a little set-back in doing that, which kind of threw my husband’s work plans out the window (Internet Server issues). After the children did their morning routine, make-up beds, etc, my daughter Kytara made breakfast with a little help using the oven and stove. I am so proud of her. She is eight by the way.

We did morning devotions, which is bit of a challenge, because my children are a bit fidgety during devotions. They are also very distracted by my 18 mouth old’s curiosity and playfulness of every thing he can get his hands on during these lessons. But I hang in there because I want them to grow to value the importance of spending time with the Lord everyday, especially with family.

Then I got my daughter started on her lessons on the computer, Switched-on-Schoolhouse Bible Third-Grade and History & Geography Third-Grade- Fishing Communities for the morning section with a break in between. My mother-in-law (she lives downstairs), took Kephraim (my 18 month old) off our hands for a couple of hours, which enabled me to get some things done. Doing laundry being one of those things.

I also worked with my other son, Kenai (the 5 year old) for about an hour or less, learning letter sounds, writing words, pre-K math concepts and by himself he did some coloring and drawing. He was a very good student today. Mostly, he played Legos, sometimes Kephraim played with the Legos too. This was okay with Kenai, as long as he didn’t destroy his creations, which he did do sometimes. This would make Kenai quite frustrated. At one point I played Legos with them and did my best to guide the play in peaceful directions.

After lunch break, for Kytara was Math ( a subject she does not like very much and tends to space out in) and Language Arts (a subject she loves). I tried working on a few things regarding my own work, but didn’t get very far, before I was needed again.

Later on, after school, I tried a crushed candy cane cookie recipe I found online and made a chicken salad with the works, my daughter helped cut the vegetables, again, she made me very proud. so for supper we had chicken salad and a cookie with milk. But my son, who ate a blueberry muffin earlier, over ate and throw-up all over the floor.

Kytara and I clean-up the floor, then she used the Swiffer Sweaper (she offered) to mop the spot. She was a God-send for me today.

Today was a lot of hard work and challenges, but all and all, it was a good day. Got a lot accomplished and my children really stepped up today, so let’s see what tomorrow brings. (Yawn) I’m sleepy now, so I’m going to get some sleep. Peace & Blessings.
