BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Less than a year after dethroned Miss California USA Carrie Prejean stirred up controversy with her remarks against gay marriage, a similar war of words is brewing in Beverly Hills.
Beverly Hills Mayor Nancy Krasne said Wednesday she is outraged over a Miss California USA contestant who is claiming to represent the city in the upcoming pageant and who spoke out against same-sex marriage in recent media interviews.
Krasne said in a statement that 23-year-old Lauren Ashley does not live in Beverly Hills or represent the city in any capacity. Krasne said she was shocked to see statements made by a beauty pageant contestant under the name of Beverly Hills, “which has a long history of tolerance and respect.”
Ashley recently told Fox News and other media outlets that same-sex marriage goes against God and the Bible.
Keith Lewis, a K2 Productions stage director for the Miss California USA pageant, told the Los Angeles Times that contestants choose the area they represent and Ashley chose to compete as Miss Beverly Hills in November 2010.
A phone listing for Ashley could not be found.
Krasne said the city has contacted Miss California USA pageant officials to determine ways to formally prevent any beauty contestants from claiming the title of Miss Beverly Hills in the future.
Ashley’s comments came just months after Prejean, the former Miss California USA 2009, reached a confidential settlement with pageant organizers on dueling lawsuits over her outspoken stance against gay marriage.
Prejean sued Miss California USA organizers in August for libel, slander and religious discrimination. She accused them of telling her to stop mentioning God even before her controversial remarks against gay marriage.
Prejean was fired in June after pageant officials accused her of missing events, an allegation she denied. The pageant later countersued Prejean.
Prejean said she was dethroned because she said during the Miss USA pageant that gays shouldn’t be allowed to marry.
I absolutely love this video, this song and these lyrics. So enjoy! Hope you like it too. Rock on!

Barack Obama has been sworn in as the 44th US president. Here is his inauguration speech.
“My fellow citizens:
I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and co-operation he has shown throughout this transition.
Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms.
At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because we, the people, have remained faithful to the ideals of our forbearers, and true to our founding documents.
So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.
My 2009 has gotten off to a slight rough start; but I’ve been watching a lot of 700 Club lately; on ABC family and it has helped me to realize that they are people out there in this world; experiencing a whole lot worst; and in comparison; I am a princess; who lives in a huge castle; who wears beautiful garments and eats at a banquet everyday. What is Proposition 8?
Wikipedia Definition:
Proposition 8 is a California State ballot proposition that would amend the state Constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to a union between a man and a woman. It would overturn a recent California Supreme Court decision that had recognized same-sex marriage in California as a fundamental right. The official ballot title language for Proposition 8 is “Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry.” The entirety of the text to be added to the constitution is: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”
The campaigns for and against Proposition 8 raised $35.8 million and $37.6 million, respectively, becoming the highest-funded campaign on any state ballot that day and surpassing every campaign in the country in spending except the presidential contest. The proponents argued for exclusively heterosexual marriage while claiming that failure to change the constitution would require changes to school curriculum and threaten church tax benefits. The opponents argued that eliminating the rights of any Californian and mandating that one group of people be treated differently from everyone else was unfair and wrong.
Today as I was going through my e-mail inbox and I discovered two Christmas themed e-mails. They reminded me that Christmas had not yet come. I was so overwhelmed with joy, excitement, gratitude, amazement and all kinds of beautiful emotions from baring witness to the most historical event in my lifetime (so far); I could only imagine it was the same feeling of strength and empowerment to whom where there to hear the legendary words spoken by Martin Luther King Jr; when he gave his renowned speech “I have a Dream,” at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington DC, on August 28th (My birth date and month) 1963.
Another “Great One” has emerged in my lifetime and I am eternally grateful to be right here, right now. I remember the morning of November 5th, my husband told me a funny little story of his wife, talking in her sleep; yelling in the middle of the night; “Obama Win!;” then rolling over in silence; never to speak again; until morning wide awake. I laughed in disbelief but he swore over and over as I tried to prod the truth out of him; that he wouldn’t lie to me, it is the truth. Read the rest of this entry »
This day is finally upon us; November 4th-Election Day in the U.S.A; after a year of lots of talking, debating, accusing, scrutinizing, arguing, and divided opinions; now it’s time to cast our votes.
For the first time ever in history in America a black man has been able to capture a major party’s nomination to run for President. For the first time ever in my lifetime; I find myself very interested in politics, very hopeful and extremely inspired by a politician.
It feels to me; that finally a “Great One” like Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, etc, has emerged in my lifetime and I am so honored that God has put me in the place I am to bare witness.
I am talking about the extraordinary man that is Barack Obama. I believe everyone knows who he is and what he will be to this country but some fear it, deny it and the enemies attack because someone with these ideals can not be allowed to thrive.
It is my dream today to write something impactful and inspiring; as inspiring as one of Barrack Obama’s great speeches; so that I would have left my mark on this historical day as well; except as I continue to write I don’t feel that I am hitting the nail on the head. Read the rest of this entry »
“A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.” Rosalynn Carter
Yesterday morning I watched the final presidential debate prior to Election Day on November 4th. So what are my thoughts? Well, I’m glad you ask.
