I am not as confident a woman as I’d like to be. I’m still trying to figure a lot of stuff out; like how to be the woman God designed me to be; how to pursue excellence; in the way I live my life; the way I raise my children; as a wife; a writer; a woman in ministry and whatever else I set out to do with my life. I thought this book might offer some inspiration and help me in my quest to be a confident woman, mother, wife and leader. So far I have read the first four chapters. So here are some excerpts here and there, that I have absorb about what I read so far.

Excerpts from Chapter One- Confidence

“A Person without confidence is like an airplane sitting on a runway with empty fuel tanks. The plane has the ability to fly, but without some fuel, it’s not getting off the ground.”

“People with low confidence, on the other hand, are not sure about anything. They are double-minded, indecisive people who constantly get frustrated with life. If they do make a decision, they are tormented by self-doubt. They second-guess (and third- and fourth-guess) themselves. As a result, they don’t live boldly. They live little, narrow lives, and they miss out on the big, rewarding life God wants them to enjoy.”

Sounds like who I would completely become, if not for the encouragement of my husband to step out into very uncomfortable situations (outside my comfort-zone).

Another excerpt from this chapter:

“Fear is a dangerous virus, because a fearful person has no confidence and can never reach her potential in life. She won’t step out of her comfort zone to do anything-especially something new or different. Fear is a cruel ruler, and its subjects live in constant torment.”

I know these words well. I live these words, but I don’t want to anymore. For the sake of my kids I have to break free, break this cycle before my little all-stars never get to shine or live the way God intended.

In Chapter Two and Three; Joyce Meyer discusses women in ministry, discrimination against women, the Women’s Right Movement, the bible verse in which Paul says something to the affect of woman being silent in church and more. Not from a feminist stand-point but from a biblical perspective (her interpretation of God’s word).

In Chapter four; she list and expand on seven secrets of a confident woman. Secret # 2 stuck out to me most because that is the stronghold I struggle with most.

Excerpts from Chapter Four- Seven Secrets of a Confident Woman

Secret # 2 – A confident woman refuses to live in fear.

“The Bible says that God has not given us the spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). Fear is not from the God; it is the devil’s tool to keep people from enjoying their lives and making progress. Fear causes a person to run, retreat, or shrink back.”

“Satan is a liar. He lies to people and places images on the picture screen of their minds that show defeat and embarrassment. For this reason, we need to know God’s promises (His word) so we can cast down the lies of the enemy and refuse to listen to him.”

Joyce Meyer had her fair share of emotional turmoil and bad experiences; and she pull through to become a renowned bible teacher and author. If she can overcome who she use to be; with all she experienced; and live out God’s plan for her life; so could we.

Next Chapter: “The Woman I Did Not Like”…………

Yesterday was officially the final day of summer for 2008. I couldn’t ask for a better ending; this had to be one of the best days I have had in a very long time and not necessarily because of the grandeur of what I did or who I was with; so much as it was because a heavy weight has been lifted and it’s up to me to keep it off.

So what happened? You wonder; hold your horses, I’m getting there. Well, it was a friend of mine’s special day, her birthday. She turned 27 years old. So the night before, I made her a real spectacular birthday card, if I do say so myself and an awesome poem, which I will share with you in a moment. In the morning of her big day, she came downstairs to my apartment (she lives above me) for the birthday breakfast I made her; it was scramble eggs, plantain, bacon and a banana and grapes on the side. She loved it. Then we went to the 12:30 service at her church. I was very excited about that because I have not been to church in a year and I was really missing it. The message was about “Taking Possession” of the gifts God gives you and it really spoke to my heart. We read Joshua 1:6. It goes like this: “Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them.

Here a list of some of the points I jotted down:

? Today is the day you can begin again, yesterday is gone

? When you fall, get back up again

? God is a dream giver, a dream releaser, a promise giver, gift-giver, take possession

? God wants you to keep moving forward (then he drew reference to the Disney movie Meet the Robinsons)

? Before you can receive God’s prophetic promise; you have to change your identity; speak a faith language, be obedient, be a servant

? God is a God of process and progression

? When you are faithful over little God will make you ruler over much
? If you want to Thank me (God), live your life, do what I called you to do

? Think big, dream big, expect the supernatural, expect great things

And there you have it; he spoke my language and I understood.

After church, we had lunch at a Cantonese/Polynesian restaurant called Cathay Pacific. I had fun, even though I did not fully enjoy the food or service. I am not a huge fan of Asian cuisine. Speaking of huge fan; Tyler Perry’s stage play The Marriage Counselor is coming to ****** (where I am); unfortunately it’ll only be here for the upcoming weekend and I have no money to go; as usual; but I am believing in God to take me places and make my dreams big or small come true, so I’ll pray about it and leave it up to him but how cool would that be; my first ever seen stage play in America happens to be produced but one of the famous people I look up to most in this world. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Anyway; after dinner at the restaurant we went to a bowling alley; my second bowling experience ever. The first one did not go to well for me personally; I was so tense and scared (anxiety) that I did not play very well at all but I made up for it last night. I relaxed, I let loose, I did a victory dance, I smile, I laughed, I sang, I posed for pictures, I knocked down some pins every once in a while and I got two strikes (can you believe it) I was so happy and I want to retain that feeling, I want to be in that place every day of my life, every moment, no matter what’s going on around me. That’s what I am shooting for. So what a day; what a day; what a wonderful day. May God grant you and me many, many, many more with the people we love.

Here is my wonderful poems and wish for you my readers and potential friends:

To Dionne

To a very special person

On a very special day

May God bless you, protect you and guide you

I pray

May all your dreams be realized

May the desires of your heart be fulfilled

May you always know love, joy, happiness, success

May those things be God’s will

May you reach for the stars

May you spread your wings and soar

May you fly so very high

Forever more

May your nights be filled with sweet dreams

And your days, with lots of laughter

May you always be surrounded by great people

May you live happily ever after

May you live a life that’s full and true

Lots of adventures, good times, happiness, music, song, dance, art,

Good food, good fun, good friends, good books, good conversation,

Learning new things, travel, love, joy, happiness, goodness, blessings, success

The best this life has to offer

The greatest gifts God has in store

Look through every open window, walk through every door

Open your heart, open your mind

Let love and life in

Face your fears, stand up tall

Use your BIG VOICE

Let them all hear you when you call

Whatever you need to make it through is already right there inside you

Keep moving forward

Don’t quit

Keep stepping up

Keep on keeping on

You can do it

You are strong, confident, intelligent,

You are a woman of the world and a child of the Most High

I believe in impossible dreams

I believe in miracles too

I believe you can accomplish anything

I believe in you

I believe the sky is the limit

I believe the stars are in your reach

I believe life’s what you make it

So learn, so you can teach

Stand up tall, be the boss of your own destiny

All you need is already in you

Be everything you are meant to be

Open your ears and hear

Open your eyes and see

Believe in dreams because they believe in you

Never let your dreams fade away

Keep stepping forward, you’ll make it through

Sometimes, sometimes you will fall

Get right back up, be strong, and don’t give up

Give it your best shot, give it your all

Whether you win or lose

It’s up to you, it’s your call

Victory is your destiny

Greatness is in your anatomy

Quote on Dreams from Tyler Perry (e-mail message)

I am a dreamer and sometimes when you have dreams you are met with
obstacles, and your dreams will start to fade. But what I’ve found is that
when God has given you a dream, no matter what it is, when you want to
give up and believing becomes hard, and when you can’t go any further, the
dream itself will start to believe for you. The dream itself will start to
carry you through with visions and hope and encouragement.

So, the new mantra for Tyler Perry Studios is “A Place Where Even Dreams
Believe.” Don’t worry if you’re met with opposition on your path to your
goals. When you’ve done all you can, stand and surrender. God will allow
your dream to motivate you.

If you don’t take away anything else from this LONG email take this,
PLEASE TAKE THIS. Protect your dreams, get away from negative thinking
dark seekers. Keep your mind and spirit clean of the naysayers. Just
believe. Only believe and it will come to pass.

Be Blessed,

Yo Boy
