Beverly Hills disowns Miss California contestant

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Less than a year after dethroned Miss California USA Carrie Prejean stirred up controversy with her remarks against gay marriage, a similar war of words is brewing in Beverly Hills.

Beverly Hills Mayor Nancy Krasne said Wednesday she is outraged over a Miss California USA contestant who is claiming to represent the city in the upcoming pageant and who spoke out against same-sex marriage in recent media interviews.

Krasne said in a statement that 23-year-old Lauren Ashley does not live in Beverly Hills or represent the city in any capacity. Krasne said she was shocked to see statements made by a beauty pageant contestant under the name of Beverly Hills, “which has a long history of tolerance and respect.”

Ashley recently told Fox News and other media outlets that same-sex marriage goes against God and the Bible.

Keith Lewis, a K2 Productions stage director for the Miss California USA pageant, told the Los Angeles Times that contestants choose the area they represent and Ashley chose to compete as Miss Beverly Hills in November 2010.

A phone listing for Ashley could not be found.

Krasne said the city has contacted Miss California USA pageant officials to determine ways to formally prevent any beauty contestants from claiming the title of Miss Beverly Hills in the future.

Ashley’s comments came just months after Prejean, the former Miss California USA 2009, reached a confidential settlement with pageant organizers on dueling lawsuits over her outspoken stance against gay marriage.

Prejean sued Miss California USA organizers in August for libel, slander and religious discrimination. She accused them of telling her to stop mentioning God even before her controversial remarks against gay marriage.

Prejean was fired in June after pageant officials accused her of missing events, an allegation she denied. The pageant later countersued Prejean.

Prejean said she was dethroned because she said during the Miss USA pageant that gays shouldn’t be allowed to marry.

Haters out there talking about how it sucks. I don’t think it sucks at all and I am not comparing it to the original. It is modern and more relevant to these times. Read the rest of this entry »

I wanted to write more but I just finished writing a long review for the “Twilight” movie, I know, finally right?!  So, I’ll keep it brief. This morning, I’m going to church; later I may chat with my mom on Skype, talk about my week of ups and downs; maybe leave home, maybe not. I had a good week and a lot to be thankful for; I have an interesting week ahead and I have a lot to hope and pray for. So pray for me and I’ll pray for you; pray for the continued growth and success of AskLatisha.com. Love you, have a great day, week, month and God bless you!

Bye, Bye Michael Jackson, 1958-2009

michael_jackson

Today is a different day; but it feels quite the same. The sun is shining, it’s nice and warm outside (where I am); my daughter is still being her sweet, adorable self; reminding me how precious these moments are; cars are still being driven; people are still walking around, going about their daily business but something’s different.             In this world; where everything is being done the way it’s normally done; a musical legend has been taken.             I must admit the news of Michael “The King of Pop” Jackson’s death took me completely by surprise and I couldn’t believe that I am old enough for something like that to happen. Does that make sense? I don’t know how to explain that any further.

However, I have shed more tears for the lost of two of my favorite young female artist Aaliyah and Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes; who died in 2001 and 2002 in a plane and car crash, respectively.             I felt closer to them; not only as artists but as people; than I did with M.J. Nevertheless; Aaliyah, Lisa Lopes and Michael Jackson had one thing in common, they were unique in their own rights and they will never, ever be forgotten, neither will their music. Like most celebrities, these three have had their fair share of scandals and time in court. So I would never claim, I knew them; the fact is very few of us knew who they really were; very few of us, if any at all, understood them and what they were really going through in their minds; the same way only God really knows me and understands what I go through in my mind.             Like I said, today is a different day but for me it feels quite the same; in my world Michael seemed to have left us for quite some time now but today my mind is filled with the understanding that this time he is really gone; gone for good; hopefully to a better place.             In my heart I always hoped all the allegations and rumors about Michael weren’t true; that he is just a real life Peter Pan in a grown-up’s body, who never understood the rules of the “real world” (one of my least favorite places); who didn’t understand limitations and boundaries; who had so much love to give that it beamed through his pores, make sense? And those who didn’t get that or get him; needed to take him down; I hoped what has been said about him wasn’t the truth and I still hope; but what’s done is done and what the real truth is; I’ll probably never know; but I can always hope.             I saw a quote in an article this morning from Michael Levine, a Hollywood publicist who represented Michael in the early 1990s. “It seemed to me that his internal essence was at war with the norms of the world. It’s as if he was trying to defy gravity.”   I think that is an adequate description of the man most of us didn’t understand; but we did understand and absolutely adore his music; this man has touched many of our lives with the his heart and soul in his music, performances and videos; he has brought us to our knees; he has brought us to tears; he has made us dance; made us sing; he has helped shaped some of our careers and he will never be forgotten in our hearts.

Michael Jackson has most certainly left his imprint and the world won’t be the same without him. It just won’t.

Bye, M. J, Goodbye. I pray your spirit is now living in a new and improved NEVERLAND and I hope you now know the purest form of happiness and love; the kind you always desired and sought after all your life. R.I.P M.J.

R.I.P Michael

And many, many more. The tears have arrived.

Read some sad news on the net this morning; actor David Carradine has passed away at 72 years old. I mean dying is a part of life and at that age one expects their check out time to catch up with them sooner than later; but it is the way he died that saddens me.

He was found dead in Bangkok, Thailand; early Thursday morning with a rope around his neck and apparently he was naked; police believe it was suicide; others believe it was murder.

I don’t know David Carradine the man; barely know David Carradine; the actor; but I can tell you this, based on the pieces I have seen and heard of the man and the actor; he doesn’t strike me as the type who’d take his own life; but I guess given the right circumstance and emotions, anyone can be driven to suicide; that’s why I say: God first; everything else after and in time wounds would heal. If it was suicide; my question is why? He was apparently shooting a movie, so he wasn’t out of work, he was 72 years old, a man who has lived; who knows that nothing last forever; so why kill himself; I don’t believe it for a second; but you just never know.

Suicide or murder; I guess we may or may not find out sooner or later. I know David Carradine from two very awesome roles in which I loved him. I know him as Shaolin monk Kwai Chang Caine in Kung Fu: The Legend Continues; which I use to watch as a young girl every Saturday night; I didn’t even know they had an original Kung Fu series at the time. I also thought he was pretty cool as really bad guy Bill in Kill Bill Vol.2, not the better out of the two fantastically artistic action flicks by Quentin Tarantino.

What a sad ending. David Carradine 1936-2009.
